AVILLA – The St. James was built in 1878 by Pennsylvania farmer, Jonathan James. The Freeman family’s association with the St. James started in 1948 with its purchase by Bill & Evelyn Freeman. The traditions established by Bill & Evelyn is carried on today by his sons Bill, Tom, Bob and his wife Beth, grandsons Todd & Greg and granddaughter Meghan.
What sets the St. James apart is that they are an independent family owned and operated restaurant. They still do things the old fashion way, as taught by Bill, still making their staples from scratch.
