Hometown Family Fun: Avilla Freedom Festival

AVILLA – The Avilla Freedom Festival opened at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 22nd, with rides and games in the midway, the industrial tent, which housed local businesses and organizations and over 50 craft and food vendors to enjoy.

The Amateur Dog Show kicked off Thursday evening with several adorable and talented canines. Shortly thereafter, musicians from Churubusco, Echo Valley Bluegrass Band,
entertained listeners with some lively original songs and music.

Friday’s fun included the festival’s first BBQ Cook-Off and in the evening, the 80’s glam-rock band from Fort Wayne, Cougar Hunter, entertained the crowds.

Saturday, the Avilla Freedom Festival had some extra fun for the kids with face painting and a sawdust pile to play in. The day kicked off with the competitive and fun Horseshoe Tournament at 11:00 a.m., then the Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show, filled with unforgettable classics, and the always adorable and entertaining Kiddie King & Queen contest took center stage.  This year’s parade, with the theme of Past, Present and Future, began at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and was filled with many interesting and talented entries.
Indiana-based musical guests Karli Edging, an energetic up and coming country music singer, took the stage, followed by Dave & Rae who kept the beat going with entertaining pop and dance music.

The 2017 Avilla Freedom Festival celebration concluded with a fantastic fireworks finale approximately at 10:00 p.m.
