The USPS Petitions To Increase Postage Rates

AVILLA – The buzz that you’ve heard about the postage stamp increase has not taken effect yet. Stamps are still 49 cents each.

The United States Postal Service is currently petitioning the Postal Regulatory Commission to grant authority to lift the current cap on postal rates. The USPS is asking to raise prices of mailing letters (which includes magazines and other mailers) and packages by 20 percent. This change will assist the USPS in avoiding bankruptcy.

According to the Associated Press, the decision on this matter should come sometime later this month.
