AVILLA – A special meeting was held Monday, September 25th at 6:00 p.m., for the first reading of the proposed new ordinance which affects industrial electric rates. A vote will be held at the next Town Council meeting on Wednesday, October 18th at 6:00 p.m. at the Town Hall.
Many questions and much discussion on this topic came to the forefront at the last Town Council meeting, with more being raised at this meeting. The Town Council said that they would get answers to the questions in which they could not immediately answer with accuracy.
Industrial electric rate comparisons were made to other power suppliers and it was noted that some are already in the process of raising their rates. The new ordinance reduces the industrial electric rates to what they were in June/July of this year for now and raises the rates in three steps over the next 18 months. This process will provide affected customers time to review their power usage and reduce power spikes which weigh heavily on their rates.
