Indiana Michigan Power Is Upgrading Electric Transmission Grid Between Avilla and Kendallville

I & M Grid

AVILLA – Indiana Michigan Power cordially invites you to attend a public informational open house. The public informational open house will take place Thursday, October 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at CrossPointe Family Church, 205 Highpointe Crossing, Kendallville, IN 46755.

Visitors may come and go at any time during the workshop. There will be no formal presentation. Community members and landowners can offer input, ask questions of project team members and learn more about the project and proposed study segments.

The project includes rebuilding approximately 8 miles of 69-kilovolt transmission line. Existing wood poles will be upgraded to steel monopoles with new wires of the same voltage.

The electric transmission infrastructure has reached an age where it needs to be replaced to better serve local customers. Replacing the electric transmission infrastructure with equipment that meets modern standards provides a more reliable power source capable of reducing power outages. Updated equipment also lessens the time needed to restore service if an outage happens.

The transmission line travels from the Noble Substation on Lemper Road just east of Avilla
to the Kendallville Substation on East Gertrude Street in Kendallville. Sections of the line will be rebuilt where it is currently located. Study segments are proposed in some areas.
These segments are potential re-routes under consideration and would require new
construction. We are asking for input on the proposed study segments.

Construction will start in early 2019 – Summer 2019.
