AVILLA – Avilla Christmas Charities has been raising funds throughout the year to help families in need during the Christmas season. This has been done through events such as a chicken BBQ sale, and Avilla flag sale, and the Annual Christmas Benefit Turkey Dinner, as well as cash donations.
This year $5,074.93 was raised at the Annual Christmas Benefit Turkey Dinner, bringing the total raised to $5,990.22 at the time this goes to print. Local businesses and organizations help greatly by collecting items. Avilla Liquors had a money donation box, Dollar General is collecting toys and hats and gloves, St. Mary’s School is collecting toys and food, Avilla Elementary is collecting hats, gloves and food, and Lassus Handy Dandy is collecting hats, gloves and food.
Avilla Christmas Charities works with Calvary United Methodist Church, Immanuel Lutheran Church, and St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church to get 100% of the funds raised and items donated to the local needy families. Last year, we received 33 family applications and as of the time of printing, we have received 33, but not all from the families that have previously applied.
Thank you to all who have generously supported the fundraisers and drives for this cause, by either donating or purchasing. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you also to those who have collected donated items for Avilla Christmas Charities, so that children in need can have a better Christmas season. And thank you to Calvary United Methodist Church, Immanuel Lutheran Church, and St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and each of their congregations for matching the donated items to individual family needs and purchasing other items.
Together we do make a difference in our community!
