AVILLA – The Spring Clean-Up day this year will be Saturday, May 18. This is the one day of the year the Avilla residents, within the corporate limits only, can dispose of items (except certain items) other than normal trash at the town’s expense. Items must be set curbside (not in the alley) by 6:00 a.m. to be disposed of, or for electronics, taken to the recycling area on East Fourth Street from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Items which will have to be prepaid at the Town Hall and tagged are refrigerators, freezers, and tires. Items of these types without tags will be left behind.
Pieces of wood need to be not more than four feet long and bundled for easy handling. Carpeting must also be bundled or tied, four feet long or less for easy handling. Roofing material will be taken in small manageable amounts. Any of these which are oversize or not bundled for easy handling will be left behind.
Items which will not be taken are hazardous materials (oil, wet paint, household chemicals), yard waste, concrete, or normal household trash.
The garbage trucks will make one pass through beginning at 6:00 a.m. and will continue until the trash has been collected on each street once. The trucks will not make a second pass through so be sure to have your items out at the curb by 6:00 a.m. If the items set at the curb have been scavenged through, be sure that they are collected, bundled, tied, and orderly as it is not the trash haulers responsibility to clean up these messes. Any questionable items or piles will be left behind.
The cost to the town for this service is $175 per hour per truck, including driver and helpers, with a four hour per truck minimum charge. The disposal rate is $62 per ton with a forty-ton minimum charge.
